Plans for March

I've been surprised at how quickly I've settled into running Saturday and Sunday.  For the past 6 years I've just done one longer run at the weekend but for the last month I've been doing back to back runs. Admittedly Satuday's run is 9-11miles so not particularly long.

This is the end of my 'easy week' so I've planned an easy 5-6mile road run today and then 10miles on the Braes tomorrow with Katrina.

I decided to do a new route from home so followed a loop that Katrina often does with her friend Tracey.  I slightly misunderstood where they go so I ended up running over 7miles but that was fine.

I felt really sluggish over the first 2-3 miles and was content to just put the miles in but once the route went downhill I felt I had a spring to my step again and went with the flow. I didn't look at my watch until the last mile so was quite happy to see I'd run at 7.32pace with a couple of miles under 7min mile pace.

After a really encouraging February I'm going to stick with my plan for March.  So I'm planning to run 5 times a week with back to back runs at the weekend.

The only difference to February is I'm running the Inverness Half Marathon on Sunday 17th March.  Katrina and our daughter Jo are also running so I reckon it will be the first time that half of Team Kynaston will be running the same race at the same time.

As part of Marathon's Talk's Jantastic during March you have to nominate a race or training run and state what time you are capable of runnning it in. The idea is that you need to do it as a flat out effort and you should be able to judge what time you could do.

If you are faster or slower than your stated time you lose points so it's quite tricky.  I've decided to go for 1hr 27mins 30mins which is 6.40pace.  I think that might be a challenge and I did think of putting 1hr 30mins which would be comfortable but I like a challenge!

I'm not going to taper at all so it will be interesting to see how it goes. I ran it a couple of years ago in 1hr 25mins 38secs but I remember doing a lot more road training that year so we'll see. It will give me an idea of what sort of shape I'm in with the Fling coming up in April.
